Nightlife and bars in Porto

Written by Monica. Posted in Porto Nightlife

Porto has a fantastically unique nightlife that is well known for starting late and finishing late, or early depending on how you see it. Bars start to fill up around 11pm and night clubs get going around 1.30am.

The best thing about the bars in Porto is that every single one is different. You won’t find chains of pubs or generic bars here, each one is individual and has a character all of its own. Some of the best bars are tucked away on quiet and unassuming streets that appear to be nothing more than plain old buildings during the day, but once the sun has set these roads really come to life. Rua Galeria de Paris is a popular street for all types of people and you will find unofficial street parties in the early hours of the morning as people spill from the bars and mingle in the road. There are hundreds of bars to choose from but here are some of our favourites:

Casa do Livro, Rua Galeria de Paris

This old book store is a firm favourite with both locals and tourists alike. Baroque-style docr and book lined walls are combined with funky lighting and live music. There is a laid back vibe and you will find anything from acoustic singers to jazz musicians and there are even plays and performances.

Café au Lait, Rua Galeria de Paris

This former textile warehouse is a laid back place for a light lunch but morphs into a buzzing bar at night with jazz, blues and soul music.

Breyner 85, Breiner Street

www.breyner85.com This bar is well known as being one of the cities coolest bars. The old townhouse has been transformed into a space dedicated to music and exhibitions and has a classic design with a modern twist for both the décor and the drinks menu.

Baixa Bar, Rua Candido dos Reis

If you’re looking for a relaxed yet stylish drink then this is the place to find it. This bar is open until 4am and plays the best pop/rock around. There is also a lovely outside area to enjoy the warm summer evenings with a nice cold beer.

Tribeca, Rua de Janeiro

Tribecacafebar.com There is a surprising splash of New York glamour in this jazz bar. The chandeliers and stylish décor look stunning but it’s the jazz scene that makes this such a popular spot.

Labirintho, Rua Nossa Senhora de Fatima

If you would like to check out some art work while enjoying a cool drink tehn you’re in for a treat at Labirintho. The art gallery/bar is a sleek and stylish space for artists, poets and musicians.

Zenith Lounge, Rua de Serralves

We couldn’t talk about the bars in Porto without mentioning Zenith lounge. This stylish rooftop cocktail lounge comes complete with swimming pool and the very best views across the city and river.
